History of Ewell, Stoneleigh and Worcester Park Areas
It's thought the Epsom area was originally substantially settled in Saxon times because there was a good source of local water. Situated on the spring line between the chalk of the North Downs and what is known as London Clay, there are several tributaries of the Hogsmill River.
The 6th and 7th centuries saw further growth, with significant population settling around St Martin's Church. As Epsom grew, so did the surrounding areas (which were then villages) of Ewell, Stoneleigh and Worcester Park.
King Charles II used to bathe in the healing mineral waters of Epsom and the town was once famous for its Epsom salts. Later, in the 18th century, the town also become famous for its racecourse. The course is the home of two big annual horse races, The Derby and The Oaks. The suffragette, Emily Davison, died here, after being hit by King George V's horse, Anmer. The name Ewell is Old English for spring. The name Stoneleigh probably derives from the settlement's location on the Stane Steet Roman road and Worcester Park is named after the 4th Earl of Worcester, Keeper of the Great Park of Nonsuch in 1606.
"Playwright John Osbourne, famous for his play, Look Back in Anger, once lived in Stoneleigh."

"John Everett Millais' oil on canvas Ophelia was painted at Ewell."
"Kevin and his team helped us secure a home that we have been longing for for the longest time. Kevin supported us every step of the way and often went over and above the call of duty in ensuring that we are handed the key to the front door. Long after hour calls, chasing vendors, dealing with difficult solicitors, assisting in a rental and the list goes on... We strongly recommend using Kaybridge if you are keen to sell your home and highly encourage buying from them. They take the sting out of the pain of the whole conveyancing process! Thank you Kaybridge!"
